The best starting Star Wars Zero Company Jae Mordant build is an Assault finisher built around Final Shot, with Gunslinger as a later weapon-focused partner. Let another Operator bring a target into her execution threshold before spending a second attack on it. This saves a finishing action for a different threat.

Final Shot thresholds: read your rank first

The extracted Final Shot record reports these breakpoints for build 25513890:

RankEnemy health after an allied attackTrigger limit
I4 HP or lessOnce per turn
II6 HP or lessOnce per turn
III8 HP or lessOnce per turn
IV10 HP or lessTwice per turn

A higher threshold is useful only if it changes which attacks your team needs. Before buying another rank, compare recent enemies' remaining HP with the next threshold. If most already die outright, improve another part of the squad first.

Order attacks to avoid wasting AP

Suppose your current threshold is 8 HP. An enemy has 18 HP, and an ally's preview shows a 10-damage hit: a successful hit would leave it at the threshold. Plan that attack before a high-cost finishing shot, then confirm whether Final Shot triggered before assigning another action to the same enemy.

This is an illustrative planning example, not a guaranteed combat result. A miss, a changed damage calculation, target restrictions or a used-up trigger can leave the enemy alive. Keep one alternative attack available until the result is visible.

Focus and Specializations

  • Final Shot: prioritize the rank that removes a recurring extra finishing action from your team's turns.
  • Assault: keep it when you need mobile pressure and the cone attack. Spread-out enemies call for selective attacks, not a forced cone setup.
  • Gunslinger: choose it when Jae regularly takes multiple weapon actions and needs stronger critical pressure.
  • Sharpshooter alternative: use a ranged role on maps where she can maintain a protected firing lane; compare its action costs with the objective's movement demands.

The Assault/Gunslinger direction is supported by Epic's Operator guide. The decision to change roles is an editorial recommendation tied to your mission and squad.

Squad partners and loadout

Trick can soften groups; Kabb competes for finishing opportunities, so give each a target instead of planning both around the same kill. Luco handles a distant priority threat while Jae cleans up nearer enemies. Keep a Medic or support Operator available if the mission forces Jae away from cover.

For weapon Mods, solve the problem visible in Shot Breakdown: accuracy when attacks fail to connect, damage when a small increase reaches Final Shot's threshold. Equip a Utility that covers a missing squad job rather than a second item doing the same thing.

Final Shot not triggering?

Check the target's actual remaining HP, your current talent rank and the number of activations already used this turn. Confirm an allied attack supplied the setup. Then inspect the target and firing situation before spending another action. Improving the talent cannot compensate for planning against the wrong threshold.
