Star Wars Zero Company builds its turn-based tactical combat on a disciplined three-action system, environmental positioning, and persistent squad consequences. Winning encounters is not a matter of grinding damage numbers; it depends on managing Action Points (AP) across your four Operators, calculating sightlines and destructive cover, and protecting your roster from prolonged Medbay recovery cycles.

Core tactical pillars

Every combat turn forces decisions across three foundational subsystems:

SystemPrimary tactical challengeKey player decisionDedicated breakdown
Action Point Economy (3 AP)Each unit has 3 AP per turn; actions cannot be saved for future turnsInterleaving actions between squad members vs. committing a full turn to one unitAction Points Guide
Cover & Environmental DamageHigh ground, destructible cover, and flanking multipliers dictate hit probabilityTrading defensive safety for offensive flank angles and knockback wall impactsCover & Damage Guide
Injuries & Medbay CyclesCombat knockouts trigger persistent debuffs lasting multiple campaign CyclesDeciding when to retreat an injured Operator vs. risking lethal Beskar Mode eliminationInjuries & Recovery Guide

Team turns vs. individual initiative

Unlike initiative-based tactical RPGs where turn order is dictated by speed stats, Zero Company uses a strict team-turn structure:

  1. Player Phase: Your entire squad shares the turn. You can activate any available Operator, spend 1 AP to maneuver, switch to another Operator to suppress a bunker, and return to the first Operator to deliver a flank shot.
  2. Enemy Phase: The opposing faction executes all moves, reinforcements, and defensive responses simultaneously.

Understanding that you do not need to exhaust an Operator's full 3 AP in a single sequence is the single most important skill leap between novice play and higher-difficulty mastery.

The Advantage resource pool

In addition to individual character AP, your squad builds and consumes a shared Advantage pool during missions.

  • Generating Advantage: Scoring critical hits, flanking enemies out of full cover, and executing successful cross-class assists fill the Advantage meter.
  • Spending Advantage: Advantage fuels decisive squad-wide commander abilities and signature ultimate attacks, providing the burst damage needed to clear elite Separatist or Infinite Coil squads before they can retaliate.
  • Advantage Economy: Conserving Advantage for key boss phases or sudden reinforcements prevents late-mission attrition on Expert and Beskar difficulties.

Patch 1.1 combat tuning

EA and Bit Reactor updated combat calculations in Patch 1.1, correcting critical hit scaling on secondary specializations and adjusting hit-chance display rollbacks on partial cover angles. Always verify your in-game hit percentages against the live targeting reticle. See Patch 1.1 for specific change boundaries.
